Do you know about the Kenilworth Church Garden?

Posted by Kenilworth Community Church on May 10, 2012 at 10:55am 1 Comment

Are you interested in gardening with your neighbors while helping people in need? The Kenilworth Garden is a farm to table project to benefit the clients of Loving Food Resources. Loving Food Resources is a food pantry located in Kenilworth that provides food to anyone with HIV/AIDS or in hospice care in WNC. We garden Wednesday evenings from 6-7pm. The garden is located behind Kenilworth Church. For more info call 828-252-8872

The Moral of the Story Is...

Posted by R Briggs Sherwood on March 30, 2012 at 12:28pm 0 Comments

March 30, 2012 - The same big, black, and furry (est. 400-500 lbs) bear has showed up on our front porch at the top of Castle Street again at 2:30am this morning.  This is the fourth visit we can count, the last being 3 weeks back and the first two being several months ago.  The bear was convinced to move on by the incessant and loud barking of our two border collies staring him down through the glass pane French doors from the living room and my rattling the doors as loudly as they would rattle.  He, she, it headed on in a northerly path (through our neighbors' front yards) and from there not sure where to.  The previous visit was at around 8:00 pm with the bear bounding down the back slope between our house and the neighbors just outside our fence with the dogs (protected by the six foot tall fence) hot on it's path down to the greenway off Caledonia behind the house.  The moral of the story is that I don't think one would want to come up unawares on this big beast and always take looks around if I happen to go outside in the wee hours of evening and morning.

What does Kenilworth Need?

Posted by Mike Stevenson on March 27, 2012 at 8:55am 0 Comments

Neighbors & Friends,

As a new member of the board of our  Kenilworth Residents' Association, I have spent some time listening and thinking about what makes Kenilworth a good place to live. Susan and I moved here almost 40 years ago, have never regretted it, and have made the decision to stay, even as we age, as long as we can.

Many of us can list our own reasons for living in Kenilworth, and that might be a good exercise for us to do individually, as a family, and corporately as a community. Would a website blog be a method for accomplishing this?

And let's consider looking forward as well!

While we are at it, let's suggest what we need to continue to be a good community to live in - and an even richer neighborhood to enjoy.

Something that makes us special:

- the variety of architecture and home design.

Something that we might need:

- a mechanism for welcoming/meeting residents moving into Kenilworth.

Who's next?

Challenge to Kenilworth Residents!

Challenge: Did anyone else receive the free loaf of bread coupon from Target? Just thinking it would be awesome if we all picked up our free loaf and donated it to Loving Food Resources (right here in Kenilworth!)! It would be a really simple way to help feed hungry people in our community. LFR serves anyone living with HIV/AIDS in WNC as well as home Hospice patients. Let us know if you accept the challenge! My coupon is for LFR!!! You can drop the bread or the coupon off at KPC. Call or email 252-8872 kenilworthpresbyterianchurch@gmail.com
