Friends -
Robin Cape is running for re-election to Asheville City Council. She was having personal problems at filing time and did not think she could run, but later reconsidered and is now running as a write-in candidate.
I think we would be lucky to have Robin back in office. And we can. It's as simple as writing in her name instead of marking out an oval.
This is not a protest campaign. This is a proactive campaign. She really intends to win.
Robin has been one of the strongest advocates on the council for community, sustainability, and developing the local economy. In her first term she has built a strong voting record and a track record of accomplishment. Remember, she was largely responsible for getting us the Beaucatcher Park on the top of the mountain, which will give us a thirty acre forested park that we can use freely, knowing that it is forever protected from development.
Please consider writing in Robin Cape's name on the ballot for city council...BUT ALSO, it is important that you let other people know that you are going to vote for Robin. She has a lot of friends and support in the community, but the biggest obstacle to her success is that some people are afraid that they will waste their vote because she is running a write-in campaign. When they know that friends, neighbors, and co-workers are supporting Robin, too, they will realize that this is a serious campaign and that their vote will count.
Making a donation to Robin's campaign fund would help, too, but word of mouth is the most powerful tool we have.
Robin won her first elected office in Woodfin as a write-in candidate, because she was a courageous spokesperson for the community interest. Winning in Asheville will be harder, but if you write her in AND let other people know that you are doing so, we can keep her in office.
